Around 40 fire fighters attended a fire at a Southampton mental health hospital where 30 patients had to be evacuated.

One person required further treatment and was taken to Southampton General Hospital while four other people were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire, which broke out on Wednesday 12th March just after 19:10 was quickly contained and extinguished using ventilation fans and jets by 20:23 that night. Fire damage was contained to the affected ward and smoke damage to around a quarter of it.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation.
